The Law guides us and condemns us.

A speed sign does not help us to slow down other than by telling us what the speed limit is. 

Likewise, the law does not help us to live righteously. It tells us what the limits are. It does not help us to do the right thing, nor offer forgiveness when we fail. 

However, the good new is that God does offer forgiveness.

When the Bible says that God chose some people, it does not mean he rejected the others, merely that he chose some to reach out to others.
