Romans 5: 3-5 "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."
As believers in Jesus Christ we have a different perspective on our sufferings than would otherwise be expected. We are told that we are to rejoice in them because we know that God's love is spread abroad in our hearts. With this confidence we can face suffering with endurance knowing that by God's gracious Spirit proven character is developed. This serves to produce a hope in The Lord that I'll never disappoint.
On a personal note, I can truly say God has given me great peace and joy. I keep praying that God will heal me for His glory, but above all, I know that my times are in His hands.
