Ministries in the Church and Biblical Shepherding

Led by Nick Roussakis in Pastor Bryan’s Office

Leadership in the Church (and we are speaking of all facets of spiritual leadership, not just the pastor’s role), is not a mantle of status to be conferred on the church’s elite. It is not earned by seniority, purchased with money, or inherited through family ties. It is not necessarily offered to those who are successful in business or finance. Neither is it handed out based on intelligence or talent. Its requirements are blameless character, spiritual maturity, and, above all, a willingness to serve humbly. This privilege is the most serious responsibility a person can take, for in Paul’s words, “those who served well shall receive great reward…”.

This study will look at the aspects of leadership in the church strictly from the Bible’s perspective and examine the essentials of what a church leader is to be and do.

Heaven—Realizing Our Destiny (Women’s Bible Study)

Led by Nancy Freeman in Pastor Frank’s Office

1 Cor. 2:9,10, 12b – No eye has seen…mind conceived…BUT God has revealed it to us by His Spirit…that we may understand what God has freely given us.

Think of friends or family members who love Jesus and are with Him now. Picture them with you, walking together in Heaven. All of you have powerful bodies, stronger than those of an Olympic athlete. You are laughing, playing, talking, and reminiscing. You pick from a tree an apple or orange. You take a bite. It’s so, so sweet that it’s startling.

Now you see someone coming toward you…it’s Jesusyou fall to your knees in worship. He pulls you up and embraces you. At last, you’re with the Person you were made for, in the place you were made to be—new people, new places to enjoy, and new things to discover.

There is a biblical basis for all the above statements. When people say to you, “We can’t begin to imagine what Heaven will be like,” you’ll be able to tell them, “I can”. (Randy Alcorn)

A Study on the Person of the Holy Spirit

Led by Nick Roussakis in Pastor Bryan’s Office

The person and the ministry of the Holy Spirit must have a pivotal and an exceptional place in the teaching and life of the church of Christ. Who else than the Holy Advocate conveys into our hearts the heavenly joys and powers which transform and sanctify our spiritual lives? Who else than the Holy Spirit of God and of Christ reveals and revives in us the glorious Son of God, His teaching, His person and His life?

Through this study we shall learn of the blessed Person who dwells in our hearts and empowers us, comforts us, appeases our fears and anxieties, edifies us and points Christ to us who through His Spirit has established His kingdom in our hearts.

Hebrews

Led by George Ostojic in Pastor Frank’s Office

The book of Hebrews was accepted as canonical by the early church on the basis that Paul is its author even though there is still debate about this. There are lots of Old Testament images to illustrate what God has done in times past. There are strong emotional appeals to a group of Jewish believers undergoing persecution for their faith to stick with the New Covenant rather than going back to Old Covenant ways. Christ is portrayed as superior to anything that came before and so there is literally nothing to go back to.

The Book is very encouraging offering help in times of frustration when ones journey in life is not always level. It encourages us  to never quit and it provides inspiration to soldier on as exemplified by the heroes of faith. Come and join us for a wonderful time of study in the book of Hebrews.
