The tongue is a two edged sword which can heal and turn away wrath or anger and crush the spirit. It can glorify God or curse his creation.

We must be aware of how we are using our tongue and control it. It is not merely a moral or ethical issue, but a religious one. The only way we will be able to control our tongue is if we address our heart.

When talking to others, we must listen to them first and seek to really understand them.

When talking to ourselves, we must remember the words of Marin Luther:

“So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: "I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!”

All our communication must be based on this knowledge of a transformed heart that understands that peole are beings created in the image of God and that our words have great power.
