"Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matt 5:3
- So begins the Sermon on the Mount which runs through Matthew Chapters 5-7. Jesus means by 'the poor in spirit' those who recognize they have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Since the New Testament tells us this is true of all the human race, we must admit this applies to ourselves. This allows us to realize our need of God's forgiveness and receive Christ into our heart as our Lord and Saviour who died for our sins and rose again from the dead. We then become children of the King and citizens of His Kingdom!
