The One Light
John 8:12 - I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.
The Lord Jesus Christ makes this astounding statement both about himself and about the individual who trusts him for salvation. Afterall, you would not follow Jesus unless you trust him.
Jesus makes an exclusive claim, for he does not say 'a' light but 'the' light of the world. The statement in John 14:6, 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me' , is another exclusive claim by Christ.
Jesus says if we follow him we shall not walk in darkness. This darkness refers to spiritual blindness, not knowing God, not knowing where we will find ourselves in eternity.
He also said there are only two roads we find in life: the wide road that leads to destruction and the narrow road that leads to life. Jesus, by his substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, for our sins and his resurrection, is the narrow road that leads to life. He is truly the Light of the World that we can have as our light of life.
