Alpha and Omega
Rev. 1:8 - ..."I am the Alpha and the Omega."
Rev.1:17 - ..."I am the First and the Last."
These texts are the words of the ascended Lord Jesus Christ to John who was
in prison on the Island of Patmos because of his faith in Christ. By these
phrases, Christ explains that he is Lord of time and knowledge. He is
eternal, which means he is eternal with God the Father and has all
knowledge. His knowledge is indicated by the use of the first and last
letters of the Greek alphabet; any alphabet can express an endless number of
ideas and information. Infinite knowledge belongs to our Lord. This is
impossible to understand but important to believe.
It is comforting to know that Christ is eternal and that he gives
everlasting life to all who receive him, believing that Christ died for our
sins according to the Scriptures, was buried and rose again from the dead
the third day according to the Scriptures.
It is comforting to know that he knows our need before we ask him.
